Is it down for everyone or just me?

Five quick checks that tell you whether the problem is your site, your connection, or something in between.

When your site will not load, the first question is whether anyone else can reach it. These checks answer that in a few minutes, in the order that saves the most time.

1. Try another network

Open the site on your phone with Wi-Fi turned off. If it loads there, the problem is between your computer and the site, not the site itself.

2. Try another site

If no websites load, the problem is your connection. If only yours fails, keep going.

3. Read the error, not just the blank page

"Server not found" points at the domain or its DNS. A security warning points at the certificate. An error page with a number, such as 500 or 503, means the server answered but the site behind it did not.

4. Check whether the domain has expired

An expired domain stops working everywhere at once. Your registrar's account page shows the renewal date.

5. Check your host's status page

If your host publishes one, it tells you whether they already know. WebHostingM publishes its own at status.webhostingm.com.

Never guess again

A monitor runs these checks for you on a schedule and tells you the moment one fails. Start with the free plan.
